The following procedure explains the recommended method of removing and replacing a front axle assembly on your gator electric toy.
Raise the front of the toy so the front wheels are at least three feet off the ground. WARNING: Block the toy securely. You will be working under the front of the toy and inside the toy under the instrument panel.
- Using a flat blade screwdriver remove the center hubcap from both front wheels.
- Remove the spindle nut and washer from the center of each wheel. Remove both fron wheels.
- Locate and remove the attaching hardware from the steering wheel. Remove the steering wheel.
- Locate and remove the axle pivot guide screw.
- Inside the toy, under the instrument panel, locate the upper coil spring locking ears. At each location, squeeze the ears together while pushing down. The ears should drop through the coil spring sockets.
- Remove the front axle assembly from the toy.
- If the steering column has been removed with the axle assembly, remove it from the old axle and install it to the new axle.
- When positioning the new axle assembly for installation, insert the steering column into the under body hole. As the axle is positioned into the coil spring mounting sockets from step 5, be sure the steering column passes through the under-dash support yoke and finally out through steering wheel mounting location.
- Press the axle firmly into position. Be sure the ears from step 5 have popped into the lock position inside the toy.
- Install the steering wheel using the hardware removed in step 3.
- Install both front wheels and hubcaps.
- Be sure all components have been securely installed prior the returning the toy to service. Turn the steering wheel full travel from side to side to side to test the steering.
