WARNING: Disconnect the battery prior the beginning this procedure.
- Remove the seat from the unit by turning the unit over and remove the two head screws holding down the back end of the seat.
- Turn the unit right side up and locate and remove the screw found under the rear fender (directly above the rear wheel). Repeat for opposite side.
- Turn unit completely over and locate the six pressure tabs. These tabs run side to side along the middle of the underbody, toward the back of the toy by the screws you removed in step 1, and under each rear wheel. Using a pair of pliers or a flat head screwdriver, pinch and push the pressure tabs up through the body.
- Turn the unit over and remove the upper body by lifting up on the either the roll bar or rear fenders.
- Pull the wire connectors off the motor terminals. If you are replacing a single motor disconnect the appropriate terminal. Note which wire is on the red dot before remove the wire connector.
- Using a flat head screwdriver, remove the center hubcap from both rear wheels.
- Remove the lock nut. You will need to hold the lock nut on the other side to do this.
- At the opposite wheel, pull the wheel and axle out of the toy.
- Locate and remove the white circular spacer. This spacer is found below the motor/gearbox in between the gearbox and the middle of the toys body. Remove the 2 screws from the outside of the gearbox(s) being replaced.
- Remove the motor/gearbox. Repeat step 9 if you are replacing both motor/gearbox.
- If replacing just the motor or gearbox you will need to unscrew the motor from the gearbox and put the new piece on.
- Install the new motor/gearbox(s). Secure the motor/gearbox into place by installing the white circular spacer in between the gearbox and the middle body of the toy. Also reinstall the two screws removed from the step 9. Line up the holes in the center of the spacer with the hole in the gearbox body.
- Connect the wire connectors to the appropriate motor terminals. Right side: Black forward, white rear: Left side: blue forward, red rear. **Position of wires may be reversed pending model year of unit** (if you recall which wire was on red dot, replace that wire).
- Install the axle and the wheel by inserting the axle end into either motor, pushing the axle through the toy, through the opposite motor and out the opposite side. BE sure the cross shaped drive hub on the wheel fully sets on the cross shaped drive up on the motor.
- Install the wheel, the flat washer, if needed, and lock nut. You will need to hold the lock nut on the other side.
- Install the center hubcap by pressing in into the hub.
- Connect the battery and test the vehicle. If motor(s) fail to operate, check all electrical connections. If the wheels spin backwards, switch the wires on the wheel that is spinning backwards.
- Replace motor compartment cover and seat. Be sure all screws and pressure tabs are completely intact.
